BABYILY®6'-Sialyllactose sodium salt Health Benefits:

BABYILY®6'-Sialyllactose sodium salt (6'-SL) is a trisaccharide consisting of galactose, glucose, and sialic acid. It is found in large quantities in breast milk. BABYILY®6'-Sialyllactose sodium salt (6'-SL) is a sialylated (acidic) HMOs formed by the combination of sialic acid and lactose.

■ Structural Characteristics

BABYILY®6'-Sialyllactose sodium salt is formed when salivary acid attaches to the 6'-position of lactose. Lactose consists of glucose and galactose linked by a β-1,4-glycosidic bond. The salivary acid is typically N-acetylneuraminic acid, which is linked to lactose via an α-2,6-glycosidic bond. In the sodium salt form, the salivary acid's carboxyl group is neutralized by a sodium ion. 3'-SL is a regional isomer of 6'-SL.

BABYILY®6'-Sialyllactose sodium salt Applications:

BABYILY®6'-Sialyllactose sodium salt promotes the development of the intestinal immune system, protects digestive health, and enhances immunity by adhering to the intestinal mucosa and preventing the invasion of harmful bacteria and viruses. 6'-SL can regulate the intestinal mucosal barrier and reduce the inflammatory response in the intestines by inhibiting inflammatory factors. Infant formula containing this substance can reduce interleukin-8 expression and exhibit anti-inflammatory properties.

BABYILY®6'-Sialyllactose sodium salt spromotes the growth of beneficial intestinal flora, such as Bifidobacterium and Enterococcus infantis. It inhibits the reproduction of harmful bacteria and maintains the microecological balance of the intestinal tract. 6'-SL reduces the risk of diarrhea, gastroenteritis, and other intestinal diseases in infants and children. The sialic acid residue of 6'-SL binds competitively to sialic acid receptors on intestinal epithelial cell surfaces. This prevents pathogens such as pathogenic Escherichia coli, rotavirus, and Helicobacter pylori from passing through the sialic acid-mediated adhesion process.

 Growth and development

BABYILY®6'-Sialyllactose sodium salt can be used as a neurotrophin. It provides the brain with energy and a material basis, influences nerve signal transmission in the brain, regulates neuron morphology and function, and positively affects intellectual development and cognitive ability in infants and young children.

BABYILY®6'-Sialyllactose sodium salt is available in the following specification and contents:

BABYILY®6'-Sialyllactose sodium salt can be added to infant formulas to promote immune system development, reduce the risk of respiratory infections, and improve intestinal health. It can also be added to processed, grain-based infant and complementary foods to provide nutrients similar to those in breast milk, promoting healthy intestinal development in infants and young children. According to specific nutritional requirements and the appropriate consumption amount, it can be used in infant foods for special medical purposes. Additionally, 6'-SL can be used as a food supplement for the general population (excluding infants and young children).

■ Nutritional value

Breast milk contains 5-15 g/L of human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs), of which BABYILY®6'-Sialyllactose sodium salt accounts for about 10-15%, a key functional component of early infant nutrition. Traditionally, formula milk is deficient in HMOs, but adding 6'-SL significantly enhances its "breastfeeding" properties. 6'-SL is indigestible to infants' intestinal enzymes, but it can reach the colon and act as a probiotic, which aligns with the "non-nutritive nutrient" characteristics of HMOs in breast milk. 6'-SL selectively promotes the growth of probiotics and inhibits the adhesion of pathogenic bacteria, thereby balancing intestinal flora.

■ Production technology description

BABYILY®6'-Sialyllactose sodium salt typically uses E.coli as the host bacterium and genetic engineering technology to introduce genes that encode α-2,6 salivary acid transferase and related genes into the host bacterium. This creates an engineered bacterium that can synthesize the sodium salt of 6'-salivfary lactose. The powdered product is obtained through fermentation, cultivation, enzyme reaction, isolation, purification, and drying. Enzymatic synthesis uses an enzyme-catalyzed reaction system that employs α-2,6-sialic acid transferase to catalyze the formation of 6'-SL from lactose and CMP-sialic acid. This compound is then converted into the sodium salt through a neutralization reaction. In the chemical synthesis method, lactose and N-acetylneuraminic acid serve as the raw materials. The glycosylation reaction, which is catalyzed by a Lewis acid and a fluorinated glycosyl donor, produces 6'-SL. This compound is then neutralized to form the sodium salt.
