Nutruoil®Castor oil Health Benefits:
Castor (Ricinus communis L.), belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family, is an annual or perennial herb commonly known as castor, castor bean or castor oil plant. It is a traditional plant used for medicinal and industrial purposes. Castor seeds are emerging as a valuable resource for functional foods and medicines owing to their rich oil and protein content with diverse nutritional and health benefits. Castor oil constitutes approximately 40% to 50% of the castor seed content.
Nutruoil®Castor oil is obtained from the seeds of Ricinus communis L. from China by cold pressing; both refined and unrefined are available.
■ Source
Nutruoil®Castor oil is derived from the mature seeds of the castor plant Ricinus communis L. of the Euphorbiaceae family. Native to the Ethiopian region of East Africa, the castor plant is now widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide, with India, China, and Brazil being the primary producing countries. Mature castor beans contain 45% to 60% oil, which is extracted through cold pressing and subsequently filtered or refined to remove impurities. The oil consists primarily of triglycerides, with ricinoleic acid accounting for approximately 85-95% of the total fatty acids, imparting unique physicochemical properties such as high viscosity and solubility in alcohol.

Nutruoil®Castor oil Applications:
Castor oil is a natural vegetable oil with unique physicochemical properties dominated by ricinoleic acid. It features high viscosity and alcohol solubility, and is widely applied in personal care, pharmaceutical and food sectors.
In the personal care and cosmetics industry, castor oil serves as a classic carrier base oil used in products such as face creams, body lotions, hand creams, hair oils, eyelash and eyebrow nourishing oils, soaps, and lip balms. It moisturizes and repairs dry skin while nourishing the scalp and hair; it can also be used to dilute essential oils and enhance the penetration of active ingredients.
In the pharmaceutical industry, castor oil can be used as a carrier for soft gel capsules, a base for ointments, and a solvent for topical formulations, aiding in transdermal drug delivery.
In the food industry, castor oil serves as a food processing aid, a release agent, and an auxiliary ingredient in candy coatings; it is also used as a solvent for food additives.
Ricinoleic acid features good skin affinity. It penetrates the stratum corneum, helps lock skin moisture and softens dry, rough, flaky skin, improving cracks on heels, elbows and other dry areas. It forms a thin protective film on the skin surface to reduce transepidermal water loss. In traditional topical care, ricinoleic acid helps soothe minor skin irritation and relieve dry redness. With its heavy texture, it works well as an occlusive carrier oil for dry skin.
Nutruoil®Castor oil can nourishes dry scalp, reduces dry scalp flaking and relieves tightness of the scalp. Applied to hair strands, it coats cuticles, reduces frizz and split ends, and boosts hair shine. It is widely used in personal care for eyelash and eyebrow conditioning to soften hair shafts and reduce breakage.
▶ Topical Soothing for Muscles & Joints
In traditional topical practices, warm castor oil compresses are used to ease local stiffness and tension of muscles and joints. This is only for external soothing and is not a treatment for arthritis or other joint diseases.
■ Fatty acid composition
Nutruoil®Castor oil is a high-quality, unique natural vegetable base oil with the highest ricinoleic acid content among all vegetable oils. Castor oil has a distinctive fatty acid composition, with hydroxy fatty acids accounting for 85% to 90% of the total fatty acids. It includes palmitic acid (1.0%-2.0%), stearic acid (0.9%-2.5%), oleic acid (2.5%-6.0%), linoleic acid (2.5%-7.0%) and characteristic ricinoleic acid (85.0%-95.0%). Compared with other plant seed oils, it boasts a far higher ricinoleic acid content, which is the core reason for its high viscosity, alcohol solubility, and excellent moisturizing and repairing properties.
