Nutruoil®Coconut oil Health Benefits:
Nutruoil®Coconut oil is an edible vegetable oil produced from coconut flesh using food-safe extraction and refining processes. It contains over 90% medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs), unlike ordinary vegetable oils, which are predominantly composed of long-chain fatty acids. Its chemical and physical stability, as well as its distinctive flavour, make it a popular ingredient in the food industry, including in baby food and functional foods. Unlike vegetable oils that are rich in long-chain fatty acids, such as soybean oil, olive oil and rapeseed oil, coconut oil has become a distinctive vegetable oil due to the unique metabolic properties of its medium-chain fatty acids. It is used in infant and toddler complementary foods, functional nutritional products, baking and cooking, and as a raw material for vegetable fat powders. Furthermore, thanks to its excellent stability, it is also used as a carrier for fat-soluble nutrients and an antioxidant synergist in food products.
■ Source
Nutruoil®Coconut oil is derived from the mature flesh, or coconut meat, of the coconut (Cocos nucifera L.), which belongs to the genus Cocos in the palm family. Only flesh with a maturity level of at least 80% is suitable for food-grade extraction; unripe flesh has a low fat content and poor flavour and is therefore unsuitable. Fresh coconut meat has a fat content of 30-40%, while dried coconut meat has a fat content of 60-70%. Ninety per cent of the world’s food-grade coconut oil raw materials originate from tropical regions in Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia and the Philippines, which are the first and second largest producers respectively. These regions serve as the core sources of food-grade raw materials due to their suitable climate, the high fat content of the coconut meat and the stable proportion of lauric acid.

Nutruoil®Coconut oil Applications:
Thanks to its high content of medium-chain triglycerides and lauric acid, excellent thermal stability, natural antimicrobial properties, and superior emulsifying properties, Nutruoil®Coconut oil is a versatile raw material that offers both functionality and cost-effectiveness. It has a wide range of applications across five major sectors: food, dietary supplements, cosmetics, personal care, and industrial products.
There are three types of Nutruoil®Coconut oil: virgin (cold-pressed, with a rich coconut aroma and retained nutrients), refined (odourless, with a high smoke point of 230°C) and fractionated (liquid and enriched with MCTs). Each type is suited to different culinary applications. Refined coconut oil has a smoke point of 230°C, making it ideal for frying, stir-frying, deep-frying and baking. It is resistant to oxidation and spoilage and can be used as a substitute for butter or vegetable oil. The virgin variety has a natural coconut aroma and is ideal for use in Southeast Asian cuisine and desserts. When used as a fat base, coconut oil improves spreadability and stability. Adding 0.5-3% to plant-based milks or coffee creamers improves texture and thickens the mixture, enhancing the milky sensation (e.g. in coconut milk or oat milk). In ice creams and sorbets, coconut oil improves emulsification, prevents crystallisation, and enhances smoothness. In snack and convenience foods, it partially replaces cocoa butter, raising the melting point and improving stability. In ketogenic and low-carbohydrate diets, it provides rapid energy without promoting fat storage, making it suitable for use in meal replacement powders and energy bars.
In the dietary supplement sector, Nutruoil®Coconut oil is promoted for its medium-chain fatty acids and lauric acid, which provide rapid energy release and gut-friendly properties. It is typically available in capsule, droplet, powder and oral liquid forms. In the cosmetics and personal care sector, coconut oil is promoted for its natural, hypoallergenic and easily emulsifiable properties, as well as its ability to provide intense moisture. It is used as a base oil, emulsifier and active carrier in skincare, hair care and make-up products.
Nutruoil®Coconut oil is efficiently absorbed without requiring a complex digestive process. This significantly reduces the burden on the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas and liver during digestion and metabolism. It helps to prevent digestive discomfort, such as bloating and diarrhoea, making it suitable for individuals with impaired digestive function. Medium-chain fatty acids (C6-C12) have short carbon chains and do not require emulsification by bile salts or breakdown by pancreatic lipase. Instead, they can be directly absorbed by the epithelial cells of the small intestine and reach the liver via the portal vein. The absorption efficiency is close to 100%, with the entire process taking only a few minutes. In contrast, the absorption of ordinary long-chain fatty acids takes several hours and is only 80%-90% efficient. They do not rely on auxiliary breakdown by gut microbiota, so an imbalanced microbiota does not affect their absorption and utilisation. This reduces uncertainties in the digestive process.
Nutruoil®Coconut oil provides the body with immediate and highly efficient energy. Its metabolic by-products are easily excreted and not easily converted into stored fat. It is an excellent alternative to glucose for both rapid energy replenishment and a sustained energy supply. Once absorbed by the liver, medium-chain fatty acids cannot be synthesised into triglycerides for storage. Instead, they are broken down directly via β-oxidation into acetyl-CoA, which rapidly supplies energy to vital organs such as the liver, muscles, heart, and lungs. This alleviates fatigue and exhaustion. When glucose is in short supply, acetyl-CoA can be converted into ketone bodies (β-hydroxybutyrate and acetoacetate). These ketone bodies can cross the blood-brain barrier and muscle cell membranes, providing a stable energy source for the brain and muscles and enabling a flexible switch to fat-based energy production.
▶ Gut health
Nutruoil®Coconut oil can inhibit the growth of harmful gut bacteria, balance gut microbiota, protect the intestinal mucosa and reduce the risk of inflammation and 'leaky gut'. It can also boost local gut immunity, making it a natural regulator of gut health. The lauric acid (45-50%) found in coconut oil is broken down by lipases in the body into lauric acid monoglyceride (GML). This substance disrupts the cell membrane structure of harmful bacteria, thereby inhibiting their reproduction without harming beneficial gut bacteria. It also promotes the proliferation and repair of intestinal mucosal cells, enhances the tight junctions of the intestinal mucosa, reduces intestinal permeability and prevents undigested macromolecules from entering the bloodstream and triggering an immune response.
▶ Cardiovascular health
Although Nutruoil®Coconut oil is a saturated fat, it does not lead to the build-up of fat in blood vessels or the liver, nor does it increase low-density lipoprotein (LDL, or 'bad' cholesterol) levels. It can also help to regulate blood lipid levels, which makes it suitable for maintaining cardiovascular health. Unlike long-chain saturated fatty acids found in animal fats, medium-chain saturated fatty acids follow a completely different metabolic pathway. They do not form lipid deposits on the walls of blood vessels or accumulate in the liver to cause fatty liver disease.
■ Manufacturing process
The extraction of Nutruoil®Coconut oil strictly prohibits the use of industrial-grade solvents and additives. The core processes either use physical methods or involve extraction using food-grade solvents, followed by thorough removal. The two main processes are as follows: In the cold-pressed virgin process, fresh coconut meat is washed, peeled and crushed at low temperatures. The coconut meat is then cold-pressed at ≤60°C and undergoes physical filtration (multi-layer filters/centrifugation) and low-temperature sedimentation to produce cold-pressed virgin coconut oil.The extraction of Nutruoil®Coconut oil strictly prohibits the use of industrial-grade solvents and additives. In the refining process, the coconut meat is pulverised and pressed at a low temperature to produce crude coconut oil. This is then degummed (phospholipids are removed), decoloured using activated carbon and deodorised (off-odours are removed via high-temperature vacuum or solvents). Finally, the oil is neutralised, resulting in refined coconut oil.
