Mineraux®Copper citrate Health Benefits:

Copper is an essential trace nutrient for human health, serving as a vital component of proteins and enzymes within the body. Many critical enzymes require trace amounts of copper to activate and function properly. Copper significantly influences genes in cells related to haemoglobin and iron binding, and catalyses haemoglobin synthesis. In the body, copper exists as ions (Cu2⁺ or Cu⁺) or in complexed forms. Copper-containing enzymes and proteins perform vital physiological functions. For example, superoxide dismutase (SOD) neutralises the toxicity of superoxide anion (O2⁻), thereby preventing conditions such as arthritis, epilepsy, diabetes and cancer. The therapeutic role of copper complexes is primarily to facilitate SOD activation. Infants, children and adolescents going through growth and development have particularly high requirements for the trace element copper. Foods rich in copper include fish, grains, legumes, seaweed, eggs and beef liver. Copper can also be obtained through dietary supplements.

Mineraux®Copper citrate is an organic copper compound that is primarily used as a fortifier of copper nutrients in the food industry. Classified as an organic acid salt, it is highly safe and reliable, and has a wide range of applications and minimal toxicity. Copper is a vital component of numerous enzyme systems within the body and promotes iron absorption and utilisation.

Mineraux®Copper citrate Applications:

As a component of over 20 key enzymes, including tyrosinase and lysine oxidase, Mineraux®Copper citrate plays a direct role in the metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. It activates superoxide dismutase (SOD), a vital antioxidant enzyme in the human body that enhances its ability to eliminate free radicals. Copper citrate alAs so boosts cytochrome c oxidase activity, ensuring smooth cellular respiratory chain function and improving energy production efficiency.

■ Core features

Mineraux®Copper citrate is a superior source of copper, with higher bioavailability than inorganic copper salts. It precisely meets the requirements for copper fortification in foods, particularly infant formula and specialised diets. With its low toxicity and strict limits on heavy metals such as lead and arsenic, copper citrate complies with food additive regulations in multiple countries. Daily intake can be controlled with no significant health risks. Copper citrate is a blue crystalline powder with no odour. It is slightly soluble in water without affecting the flavour of food and remains stable at room temperature, making it suitable for various food processing environments.

Mineraux®Copper citrate is available in the following specification and contents:

  Mineraux®Copper citrate powder (Copper ≥34%)

Mineraux®Copper citrate is primarily used in food processing and nutritional fortification, where its stability and high bioavailability make it a popular additive.

In the field of nutritional fortification of food, copper citrate can be used in cereal products, dairy products, infant formula and other foods to precisely supplement the trace element copper. It replaces inorganic copper salts (such as copper sulphate), offering higher absorption efficiency at equivalent addition levels while minimising its impact on food flavour. Copper citrate inhibits the growth of microbes such as mould and yeast in food products, thereby extending their shelf life. It has a minimal effect on the original flavour and colour of foods, and is suitable for acidic and neutral food systems. As a food colour preservative, copper citrate can be used in fruit products and canned vegetables to delay oxidation and browning, thus maintaining the product's vibrant colour. When used in conjunction with ascorbic acid, its colour-preserving effect is enhanced and it complies with food additive usage standards.

As a copper supplement in livestock, poultry and aquatic feed, copper citrate improves the immunity and growth of farmed animals. Compared to inorganic copper, it is more readily absorbed by animals, thereby reducing the environmental impact of copper residues in manure.

■ Production technology characteristics

Food-grade citric acid (purity ≥99.5%) and copper oxide/carbonate (copper content ≥98%) are used to remove impurities containing heavy metals from raw materials. The citric acid solution is heated to between 60 and 80 °C while the copper salt is slowly added and the pH is controlled to between 5 and 7. Stirring for two to four hours yields copper citrate crystals. The reaction solution is then filtered using a plate-and-frame filter to remove any insoluble matter. The filtrate is then washed with ethanol to crystallise the product and reduce the amount of free citric acid remaining. Drying the final product: Low-temperature vacuum drying at 50-70 °C is employed while controlling the drying loss to ≤ 2%. After grinding, the material is sieved through an 80-mesh screen to produce a finished product that meets the required specifications.

Mineraux®Copper citrate promotes the activation and proliferation of macrophages and neutrophils, enhancing immune cells' ability to phagocytose and eliminate pathogens. It participates in immunoglobulin synthesis, elevating antibody levels and optimizing the body's humoral immune response mechanism. Copper citrate regulates cytokine secretion, maintaining immune system balance and reducing infection risk.

 Deeply Enhances Immune Function

Mineraux®Copper citrate promotes cross-linking reactions between collagen and elastin, thereby enhancing the structural stability of the skin, tendons and ligaments. It also plays a role in the process of bone mineralisation, helping to deposit calcium and phosphorus within bones to support skeletal development and maintain bone density. Furthermore, copper citrate improves the elasticity and resilience of joint cartilage, providing supportive protection for joint health.

Physical and Chemical Properties:

Mineraux®Copper citrate plays a role in haemoglobin and myoglobin synthesis, assists in the absorption and utilisation of iron, and prevents microcytic anaemia caused by copper deficiency. It maintains vascular wall integrity, reduces vascular fragility and contributes positively to stable blood circulation.

Supporting haematopoiesis and blood circulation regulation

Mineraux®Copper citrate participates in the synthesis and maintenance of nerve myelin sheaths, which act as protective barriers for nerve fibres and enhance the efficiency of neural signal transmission. It also regulates the synthesis and metabolism of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and norepinephrine, thereby contributing to balanced nervous system function.
