Nutrivitas®β-carotene Health Benefits:
Nutrivitas®β-carotene is one of the most common isomers of carotenoids, a polyene pigment with a conjugated double bond consisting of isoprenoid residues as units. beta-carotene is an orange-yellow, fat-soluble compound, the most abundant and stable natural pigment in nature. Beta-carotene is also a pro-vitamin A carotenoid, which is easily converted to vitamin A by the human body when needed.
■ Source
In 1831, the German chemist H. Wachenroder first crystallised β-carotene from carrot root and named it 'carotene' after its source. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, research showed that carotene exists in α, β and γ isomers, with β-carotene being the most active due to its conjugated polyene structure. In the 20th century, it was discovered that β-carotene could be converted in the human body to vitamin A, which became a key substance in the treatment of night blindness and other diseases, and its biosynthetic mechanism was further elucidated in plant plastids (MEP pathway) and fungal cytoplasm (MVA pathway) .
The main sources of β-carotene are dark green vegetables, orange or yellow fruits and vegetables, and plant foods such as seaweed.

Production technology description:
●Methods of producing β-carotene include chemical synthesis, microbial fermentation and natural product extraction. The microbial fermentation method, which is more widely used, utilises the metabolic capacity of microorganisms to synthesise β-carotene through a fermentation process under suitable conditions. Typically, microbial strains with the ability to synthesise β-carotene, such as certain yeasts or bacteria, are used and the microorganisms are induced to synthesise β-carotene in large quantities by regulating the fermentation conditions such as temperature, pH, nutrients, etc. The β-carotene is then obtained in high purity through steps such as extraction, separation and purification. The natural substance extraction method usually extracts β-carotene from plants rich in β-carotene, such as carrot, saltwort, sea buckthorn and so on. The chemical synthesis method uses organic chemical raw materials to synthesise β-carotene through chemical reactions.

Nutrivitas®β-carotene prevents and treats dry eyes, night blindness and abnormal keratinisation of the skin; inhibits cancer processes through antioxidant action and is often used as a dietary supplement for cancer patients. It may also reduce damage to blood vessels caused by oxidative stress. Common dosage forms include softgels and enteric-coated tablets.
Nutrivitas®β-carotene Applications:
Nutrivitas®β-carotene is used as a natural colouring agent to impart an orange to red hue to foods and is widely used in bakery products, confectionery, beverages, condiments, instant noodles and margarine.β-Carotene is used as a nutrient fortifier, a precursor of vitamin A, to enhance the nutritional value of foods such as prepared milks, flavoured fermented milks, cheese analogs and canned fruits. β-Carotene is used as a precursor of vitamin A to enhance the nutritional value of foods such as prepared milks, flavoured fermented milks, cheese analogs and canned fruits.
Nutrivitas®β-carotene may help prevent eye disease and promote eye health. Beta-carotene may also help keep the cornea (the surface of the eye) healthy and moist, optimising eye health. As a powerful antioxidant, beta-carotene helps reduce oxidative stress to the eyes caused by blue light from computer screens and UV radiation.
Nutrivitas®β-carotene is an antioxidant that boosts the health of our immune system by reducing oxidative stress in the body. Antioxidants remove and destroy free radicals and boost our immune function. Free radicals can cause damage to our tissues, which can lead to chronic inflammation and disease. Beta-carotene may influence immune function by promoting gene regulation and angiogenesis, or the growth and development of new blood vessels.
A diet rich in phytochemicals such as Nutrivitas®β-carotene can help improve your skin's resistance to the sun's UV rays. beta-carotene can help prevent acne and reduce skin blemishes. It also has natural exfoliating properties that promote cell renewal and optimise skin health and appearance.
■ Relationship with vitamin A
β-Carotene is a precursor of vitamin A and is converted by enzymes in the body to the active form of vitamin A (retinol). This conversion takes place mainly in the lining of the small intestine and in the liver. Excessive intake of direct forms of vitamin A can lead to toxicity, with symptoms such as dizziness and nausea. On the other hand, β-carotene is only converted to vitamin A when needed and the rest is stored or excreted in a harmless form, making it much safer.
▶ Lung health
A diet rich in beta-carotene is good for lung health. Nutrivitas®β-carotene is converted in the body to vitamin A, which helps maintain normal lung function. Vitamin A deficiency increases the risk of various infections and respiratory diseases, as well as death. Taking beta-carotene supplements can help to safely increase vitamin A levels without the risk of vitamin A toxicity.
▶ Mental health
Nutrivitas®β-carotene may optimise mental health, including cognitive function and memory, through its antioxidant effects. Long-term supplementation with beta-carotene may optimise memory and cognitive function.
▶ Feed field
Nutrivitas®β-carotene can improve the yolk colour of poultry eggs (to meet the standard of export colour grade), the feather colour of poultry and the body colour of aquatic animals; improve the sperm count and vitality of bulls and stabilise the egg production rate of laying hens during the moulting period; improve the disease resistance of farm animals through antioxidant action and shorten the fattening cycle.
