BABYILY®Lacto-N-tetraose Health Benefits:

BABYILY®Lacto-N-tetraose (LNT) is a naturally occurring tetrasaccharide compound found in human milk. It consists of galactose, N-acetylglucosamine, and glucose and belongs to the essential core components of neutral core HMOs. In its structure, N-acetylglucosamine is first connected to galactose through a β-1,3 glycosidic bond, and then galactose is linked to glucose by a β-1,4 glycosidic bond.

■ Structural Characteristics

BABYILY®Lacto-N-tetraose is a tetrasaccharide consisting of β-D-galactose, (1→3)-β-D-galactose, (1→4)-β-D-glucose, and β-D-galactose units linked by glycosidic bonds. Its specific glycosidic linkage and monosaccharide composition give it a certain spatial structure and chemical properties. It presents as white powder that are easily soluble in water and slightly soluble in ethanol. It is stable under neutral to weakly acidic conditions.

BABYILY®Lacto-N-tetraose Applications:

BABYILY®Lacto-N-tetraose stimulates the intestinal immune system and induces the production of secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) in the intestinal mucosa. It enhances the mucosal immune response and, at the same time, regulates the systemic immune response, thereby enhancing the body's resistance to infection.LNT mimics the structure of the sugar chain on intestinal cells. It acts as a "bait" that binds to pathogenic bacteria, preventing them from adhering to intestinal mucosal cells. This reduces the risk of infection and the occurrence of diarrhea. LNT mimics the sugar chain structure on intestinal cells and binds to pathogenic bacteria, preventing them from adhering to intestinal mucosal cells. This reduces the risk of infection, as well as the occurrence of diarrhea and enteritis.

BABYILY®Lacto-N-tetraose specifically promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria, such as Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus, in the intestinal tract. It also inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella. This optimizes the structure of intestinal bacterial flora and maintains intestinal microecological balance.LNT is particularly important for developing the intestinal tracts of infants and young children. It accelerates the maturation of intestinal mucosal tissues and enhances the digestive and absorptive capacities of the intestinal tract for nutrients.

 Promotes growth and development

As a natural component of breast milk, BABYILY®Lacto-N-tetraose plays an auxiliary role in developing and maturing the infant's intestinal tract. It helps maintain a stable intestinal environment and creates favorable conditions for nutrient absorption. This indirectly supports the infant's growth and weight gain.

BABYILY®Lacto-N-tetraose is available in the following specification and contents:

BABYILY®Lacto-N-tetraose is a component of breast milk that can be added to infant formula to enhance its nutritional value, immune function, and ability to promote healthy infant growth. LNT has passed US FDA GRAS certification. In China, it is the second human lacto-oligosaccharide approved by the Health Commission for use in infant formula, after 2'-fucose-based lactose (2'-FL). Additionally, BABYILY®Lacto-N-tetraose can be used in infant formula for special medical purposes, as well as in prepared milk powder. LNT can be used in dietary supplements for young children and the general population to help regulate intestinal flora and promote intestinal health in people of different age groups. It can also be used in sterilized and fermented dairy products, cereal bars, flavored beverages, and processed cereals. When added to these foods, LNT regulates intestinal flora and enhances immunity without affecting the food's original flavor or quality. It also enhances the food's nutritional value and health benefits.

■ Nutritional value

BABYILY®Lacto-N-tetraose is a prebiotic that promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria, such as Bifidobacterium. This helps maintain the microecological balance of the intestinal tract and improves intestinal function. LNT is metabolized by intestinal bacteria, producing short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), such as acetic acid and lactic acid. These SCFAs provide energy to intestinal cells and regulate the immune system, improving intestinal barrier function. These short-chain fatty acids provide energy for intestinal cells and regulate the immune system.

■ Production technology description

The production of BABYILY®Lacto-N-tetraose relies on microbial fermentation combined with metabolic engineering and synthetic biology to efficiently synthesize the compound. Enzymatic and chemical synthesis are complementary solutions. In the microbial fermentation method, the microbial metabolic network is reconstructed through gene editing technology to precisely regulate the LNT synthesis pathway. During this process, lactose is converted to LNT through the action of β-D-galactosidase and β-D-galactosyltransferase. These enzymes are key to both natural and synthetic synthesis. The product is prepared as a powder using spray drying, thanks to breakthroughs in separation and purification technology, as well as clean technology.

Enzymatic synthesis uses β-1,3-galactosyltransferase to catalyze the formation of LNT from lactose and UDP-galactose. In contrast, chemical synthesis uses lactose and N-acetylglucosamine as raw materials. These materials are then neutralized into sodium salts through Lewis acid-catalyzed glycosylation of fluorinated glycosyl donors with lactose, producing LNT.
