Xenoluna®Milk protein concentrate Health Benefits:
Xenoluna®Milk protein concentrate is a protein complex extracted from milk using membrane separation technology, spray drying, and other methods. It has a protein content ranging from 40% to 90% and contains the natural composition of casein and whey proteins. Its amino acid composition is similar to that of breast milk proteins, making it a high-quality, complete protein.
■ Source
Xenoluna®Milk protein concentrate is made from raw milk. Milk naturally contains two main types of protein. Casein, which makes up about 80 percent of total milk protein, is a slow-release protein that coagulates in acidic environments. Whey protein, which makes up the remaining 20 percent, is water-soluble and fast-absorbing with a balanced amino acid profile. Milk protein concentrate retains the natural proportions of these two proteins, rather than extracting one in isolation. Its source is essentially a concentrated form of the “whole protein fraction” of milk.

Xenoluna®Milk protein concentrate Applications:
Xenoluna®Milk protein concentrate is typically used with whey protein to adjust the casein-to-whey protein ratio to resemble that of breast milk (approximately 4:6). This reduces the hardness of casein clots and improves digestibility. As infants' and young children's digestive abilities increase, the proportion of milk protein concentrate can increase as well. Milk protein concentrate can serve as one of the main sources of protein while supplementing calcium, phosphorus, and other minerals. In low-lactose and preterm infant formulas, milk protein concentrate can serve as a high-quality protein source while regulating osmolality and energy density.
With a Protein Digestibility-Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS) of nearly 1.0, Xenoluna®Milk protein concentrate efficiently meets the protein needs of infants and children aged 0-3 years, especially after six months of age, and promotes muscle, organ, and nervous system development. The natural ratio of casein to whey protein (approximately 8:2) provides a dual supply of slow-releasing casein and fast-absorbing whey protein, aligning with the continuous nutritional needs of infants and young children.
The mineral content (calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, etc.) and lactose content of Xenoluna®Milk protein concentrate can be regulated by the production process. This avoids the high osmotic pressure of the formula and reduces the burden on the kidneys. Some milk protein concentrate production processes retain a small amount of the natural milk fat globule membrane (MFGM), which contains gangliosides and sphingomyelin. This MFGM can potentially promote cognitive development in infants and young children.
▶ Improve digestion and absorption
The casein in Xenoluna®Milk protein concentrate exists in the form of micelles, which form soft clumps in stomach acid. These clumps are more easily digested by the gastrointestinal tracts of infants and young children than single casein. Although the β-lactoglobulin in whey protein may cause allergies, milk protein concentrate is suitable for nonallergic infants and young children because its natural protein structure is less allergenic than hydrolyzed protein. The whey protein in milk protein concentrate contains lactoferrin, immunoglobulin, and other active ingredients that can strengthen the intestinal immune barrier and reduce digestive problems, such as diarrhea. Milk protein concentrate contains lactoferrin and immunoglobulin, which strengthen the intestinal immune barrier and reduce digestive problems, such as diarrhea.

■ Nutritional Value
Xenoluna®Milk protein concentrate contains about 80% casein and 20% whey protein. This differs from the casein-to-whey protein ratio in breast milk (40% to 60%, respectively), but this ratio can be optimized through process adjustments to meet infants' digestive needs. Milk protein concentrate has a balanced amino acid profile containing eight essential amino acids with a digestibility rate of over 90%. Each 100 g of milk protein concentrate contains 1,000 mg of calcium, with a calcium-to-phosphorus ratio of about 1.2:1. This ratio is easily absorbed by infants and contributes to bone and tooth development. The low lactose content of milk protein concentrate makes it suitable for infants with lactose intolerance or lactose sensitivity, and it reduces the risk of diarrhea.
■ Production technology description
Xenoluna®Milk protein concentrate uses skimmed milk as the main ingredient. In a few cases, whole milk is used, but it must first be skimmed. The milk is heated to between 72 and 85 °C for 15 to 30 seconds to kill pathogenic bacteria and most microorganisms while avoiding the denaturation of proteins at high temperatures. After sterilization, the milk is quickly cooled to 4-10°C and stored in aseptic tanks to prevent bacterial growth and fat recolonization. The key process for concentrating milk proteins is ultrafiltration (UF). In this process, protein retention and impurity separation are achieved by membrane filtration. A semipermeable membrane with a molecular weight cutoff of 10-100 kilodaltons (kDa) allows the passage of low-molecular-weight components, such as water molecules, lactose, and small mineral ions, while retaining the proteins due to their much larger molecular weights. The final protein content is controlled by adjusting the ultrafiltration time and number of cycles. The concentrate is processed by spray drying. Although the protein is heated at a high temperature during drying, it is actually heated at a lower temperature due to water evaporation and heat absorption to avoid denaturation. After drying, the protein forms a powder with good fluidity and uniform particles.
